The UK defence industry is worth an estimated £35bn, makes up 10% of UK manufacturing, and employs over 300,000 people, the UK currently being the world’s second largest defence exporter. Another important component of UK industry is electronics, audio and optical equipment, with manufacturing facilities producing TV, radio and communications products, scientific and optical instruments, electrical machinery, office machinery and computers.
